Registration Deadline date indicates the last date you can register without paying the late fee. Classes may fill prior to deadline date. That date is for us to be aware of how many students we will have in a class so preparations can be made for the class. Registering early for a class assures your participation in that class.

K-2 Fall Basketball

Drill, games, with some learning thrown in. Here is a great opportunity to learn all you need to be a great basketball player.

Indoor Soccer Camp

We will work on dribbling, passing, and shooting.  We will have games and competition so players can use their skills in a practical environment, pushing them to become better players.  Overall, the camps are designed to help kids have fun playing and learning the game of soccer. Shin guards are required. FREE Basalt Longhorn soccer ball for each participant!

Basketball

K2 Mud Season Basketball League

We encourage Basalt’s younger basketball players to get off the bench and on the courts with our K2 Mud Season Basketball League taught by Coach Debbie Alcorta. Work on hoop fundamentals with games every practice day. End the season with a mini tournament for all players. Sign up for a team today!

Instructional League Basketball

Recreation Basketball is a great way to learn the game of basketball. Two practice nights per week with weekday games. Games are scheduled with Glenwood Springs and Carbondale . Pre-season begins December 13th. Regular season begins January 3 and ends with tournaments Sunday March 6 for 3/4 grades and Sunday March 13 for 5/6 grades. 3/4 grade teams and 5/6 grade teams for boys and girls.

Cost: $75 (includes t-shirt!)

Nuggets Skill Challenge

Test your basketball skills with the Nuggets Skill Challenge. Winners of the local competition move on to the sectional. State championship at a Nuggets game in Denver!

Who: Ages 7 - 14

Youth League Basketball Coaches Needed

As our participants move on to school sports, so do our coaches. We are looking for volunteers to participate in our Youth Basketball Rec League from December to mid March. We will offer reimbursement for traveling costs. If you are interested in being a head coach or assistant coach, please call the Recreation Department at 927-8214.

This is a great opportunity for High School Students to fulfill their community service requirements!

Basketball Referees Needed

BEADING CLASSES

Beaded Ornament Series & Food Fun with D.D. Gerdin

We had so much fun the last two years, D.D. is offering the Ornament Series again with new classes and old favorites! Keep Tuesday afternoons free to have some fun and get into the holiday spirit!

November 15 - Beaded Ornament Hangars & Christmas Trees

Get ready to hang all the ornaments you make with beautiful, one of a kind ornament hangers! You will make 20 ornament hangars in this class which are sure to be as pretty as the ornaments that hang on them! We will also make a miniature beaded Christmas tree!

November 22 - Beaded Snowflakes

Make a set of very unique and beautiful snowflakes to proudly display in a window or on your tree! Now is the time to begin using your Ornament Hangars you made from Week #1 in this series!

November 29 - Snowmen

These snowmen will never melt and will be cherished for years to come. We will make two beaded snowmen and one super soft, squishy sock snowman.

December 6 - Not Your Ordinary Gingerbread House!

A very unique Gingerbread house, indeed! This one you will be able to hang on your tree! When the holidays are over, you can eat it, too!

December 13 - Beaded Stars

Make a beautiful beaded star! Great to give as a gift, put on a package or hang on your tree.

December 20 - Beaded Angel

Angels come in all shapes and sizes…come decide what your angels will look like! You will leave this class with a choir of Angels that reflect your unique creative style!


"Mom and Me" Beaded Crosses

Time to start thinking about those Christmas gifts and holiday decoratoins! Make a few beautiful crystal beaded crosses to get ahead of your holiday shopping...a truly unique and beautiful gift which reflects the true spirit of this holiday season. Along the way you will learn the right angle weave stitch. This is the perfect time to relax and spend an afternoon with each other before the rush of the holidays is in full swing. If time permits we will even make a 3D beaded crystal cross!

New! Beginner Dance Classes

Jazz/Tap Combination

Classes are designed to introduce students to the basic fundamentals of jazz and tap dance.  Students will learn warm-up, basic steps and terminology, combinations and stage presence.  In the second session we will add a Beginner/Intermediate class allowing students from session I to progress to the next level.

Cost is $90.00 for 6 classes

Babysitter Training

What makes a “good” babysitter who is asked back again and again? Class participants can be successful babysitters by learning about leadership, basic care, safety, and first aid. Successful babysitters will receive a handbook and a course completion card (not a certification). Attendance and participation in all days is mandatory.

Halloween Carnival

Basalt Recreation’s fun and spooky carnival is back. Here is a safe environment for you child to start out the Halloween holiday. Each child receives a goody bag with glow stick and candy bar with cover charge.

Cost: $1 cover charge. Tickets for games are 25 cents.

Basalt Halloween Carnival benefits local non-profit clubs in the valley. If you have a non-profit and would like to participate, please call us!

Athleticism™

Making Health Fun for Your Child with JG Athletics!

Are you interested in taking your passion for sports and health to a higher level? Athleticism™ is a comprehensive method of teaching agility, balance, flexibility, strength, speed, technique, ambidexterity, and hand eye coordination, all packaged in a 90-minute routine. This class is taught by professionally trained instructors who follow the guidelines set by the best coaches, physicians, and trainers in the business. Find the inner athlete in you!

Kid Fit Tennis

Keep the energy going during the off season with this high energy class. Kids work with fun drills to optimize physical and mental health. This class is guaranteed fun while teaching your child to be physically fit! Two sessions to choose from, take one or take both!

Balls Out Tennis for Adults

Taking tennis inside for fast pace tennis drills and games to get your heart rate to its optimal level. This class can also be great cross training to get your muscles in optimal skiing condition. Skill level is not a factor for participation. Four sessions to choose from or purchase a punch card and pay as you play. Sign up for a full session for $60 or buy a punch card at Basalt Town Hall and each class is $15.

Cross Country Skiing

After School XC Class – 1st - 4th Grades

Here is the chance to learn the relaxing and fun sport of cross-country skiing. Techniques on stance and balance are taught with lots of fun and games. A fun way to have your child learn skiing without the crowds of the ski areas. Class is taught on the Rio Grande Trail. Class meets at the Rec House at the High School. Take one session or both!

Basalt Recreation Programs

Basalt Recreation provides programs for youth by contracting with talented people who teach our activities. If you have a talent you would like to share give us a call to discuss. We can set up a location, provide advertising and public announcements, we provide registrations, and we also provide liability insurance for a percentage of the fee. Aspen Elks Lodge Financial Aid Program

Aspen Elks Lodge provides funding for scholarships to participate in Basalt Recreation activities. Applications for funding can be found on the recreation website or at the town hall. This is becoming a popular way for children of our community to enjoy the many recreational activities with Basalt Recreation. Forms must be properly filled out to be considered. This scholarship money is to be used for Basalt Recreation programs only. Other organizations included in this brochure have a separate scholarship program.
