Registration Deadline date indicates the last date you can register without paying the late fee. Classes may fill prior to deadline date. That date is for us to be aware of how many students we will have in a class so preparations can be made for the class. Registering early for a class assures your participation in that class.

Flag Football

For kids who love football and want some non-competitive practice and fun. Each practice will include physical fitness and stretching, skills practice in throwing, catching, punting and field goal kicking, and a 30 minute flag-football scrimmage. If any Thursday session is cancelled due to rain, it will be rescheduled for the
Friday of that week.

Fall Archery 5th - 8th grades

This class teaches students how to hold a bow, aim, shoot, and be safe. We use long bows to teach the basics of this ancient hunting technique. Also for experienced archers to practice and improve technique.

Pre-K/ Kinder & 1st Grade Fall Soccer

This class will introduce the beginner or challenge the seasoned soccer player with drills and games that will have them playing and scoring! We finish each class with a fun, team building games! Shin guards are recommended and bring water to class.

Drills, skills, and games, with some competition thrown in. Here is a great opportunity to learn all you need to be a great basketball player.

Juggling is truly a portable workout. It can burn as many calories as a good walk. It will sharpen focus and concentration, relieve stress and increases brain power. It is an exercise that doesn’t feel like exercise. This is a great class to have fun while learning a lifetime skill that will amaze friends .

Indoor Soccer Camp

We will work on dribbling, passing, and shooting and wrap up every practices with team building games so players can use their skills in a practical environment, pushing them to become better players.  Overall, the camps are designed to help kids have fun playing and learning the game of soccer. Shin guards are required.

Pickleball Date Night

Grab your favorite Friday night date and come join us for some serious Pickleball competition. This is for ages 10 years and up to Adult. This is a great way for the family to get some fun family time too!

Basalt Rec is offering two Early Release Wednesday classes for BMS Students!

Babysitter and CPR Training

(Early Release Wednesday Class for BMS)

This class will make you a valued babysitter by all your clients. The first four classes will teach the importance of leadership, basic care including diaper changing and feeding, safety, choking, rescue breathing and first aid. The last three classes will give you an in-depth training in CPR. A must do for young babysitters wanting to become the best babysitter they can be. Fun and informative. Attendance and participation is required for all lasses. Certificates will be provided for successful students.

Boys' High School Tennis Club This is a combined club tennis team with Basalt High School and Roaring Fork High School. This club will have competition with the Aspen Boys JV tennis team and The Maroon Creek Boys Tennis Club. All practices are at the BMS courts with home matches at Crown Mountain. Come be a part of the Boys High School Tennis Club with Basalt Recreation. Registration is available online. For more information on joining, call Diana Elliot at 970-927-4693.

Kids Beading Classes with D.D. Gerdin

(Classes held during Teacher Work Day/No school for students during the day for RE-1)

Beaded Snowflakes

D.D. is back with her fun snowflake class. Make beautiful snowflakes to hang in your window or to give away as a beautiful gift to someone special. Each snowflake is as unique as you are. Classes are for kindergarten to adult. Special price for parent or older sibling and child taking the class together.

Beaded Fairies

Fairies are creative to make and share with your friends. This is a fun class to take with a friend to see who can make the most unique fairy. Fairies are special to share or keep. Make as many as the hour allows and amaze the class with designing new and beautiful fairies.

Cross Country Skiing

Cross Country Skiing Day Adventure!

Fridays with no school is a great time for your child to get outdoors and explore the great cross country skiing we have right in our backyard. We will be exploring Ashcroft for a day on the snow on February 2. We will explore animal tracks and learn about snow
structure. Your child will need to bring a lunch and a backpack for water and clothing layering.

Children must be comfortable on skis. We have skis available for your child. Meet at the rec house at 600 Southside Drive.

Who: 3rd-6th grades February 2, 9 AM-3 PM-Ashcroft
Cost: $35.00 per session

What your child will need for the skiing trip:

  • A lightweight backpack for food, water and clothing.
  • Layered clothing, waterproof jacket, warm gloves, hat, sunglasses, sunscreen.

  • Intermediate skiing skills.
  • A positive attitude and the strong desire to learn and have fun!

Nuggets Skill Challenge

Test your basketball skills with the Nuggets Skill Challenge. Winners of the local competition move on to the sectional. State championship at a Nuggets game in Denver!

Instructional League

3rd/4th & 5th/6th grades Boys & Girls

Recreation Basketball is a great way to learn the game of basketball. Two practice nights per week with weekday games. Games are scheduled with Glenwood Springs, Carbondale and Aspen.

Pre-season practices begins December 11th. Open gyms available during Winter Break. Regular season begins January 8 and ends with tournaments by Sunday March 1. 3/4 grade teams and 5/6 grade teams for boys and girls.

Cost: $75 (includes t-shirt); $85 after registration deadline date

Registration deadline is December 1. Registrations after deadline date is on an as needed basis. Please register early so we can assign coaches and make sure we have adequate supplies.

Youth League Basketball Coaches Needed

As our participants move on to school sports, so do our coaches. We are looking for volunteers to participate in our Instructional League Basketball season from December 14th to March 1st. If you are interested in being a head coach or assistant coach, please call the Recreation Department at 927-8214.

K-2 Basketball for Girls!

Girls rock in this camp designed for girls only. Learn the basic fundamentals of the game and compete against friends with games. This is a great way to introduce girls to the wonderful game of Basketball!

K2 Mud Season Basketball League

This is an opportunity for the younger basketball players both boys and gorls to get off the bench and on the courts with our K2 Mud Season Basketball League. Work on hoop fundamentals with games every practice day. End the season with a mini tournament for all players. Sign up for a team today!

Basalt Recreation Programs

Basalt Recreation provides programs for youth by contracting with talented people who teach our activities. If you have a talent you would like to share give us a call to discuss. We can set up a location, provide advertising and public announcements, we provide registrations, and we also provide liability insurance for a percentage of the fee. Aspen Elks Lodge Financial Aid Program

Aspen Elks Lodge provides funding for scholarships to participate in Basalt Recreation activities. Applications for funding can be found on the recreation website or at the town hall. This is becoming a popular way for children of our community to enjoy the many recreational activities with Basalt Recreation. Forms must be properly filled out to be considered. This scholarship money is to be used for Basalt Recreation programs only. Other organizations included in this brochure have a separate scholarship program. Know Before You Go--Sign up to receive texts alerts regarding your events/camps

You can sign up to receive text messages relevant to programs you sign up for regarding changes due to weather, venue changes or cancellations.  The service will only be to make sure you will be informed and will only send you a text if anything changes from the regular schedule. Adult Programs

Adult 4v4 Flag Football League

7-week season, followed by a single elimination tournament, prizes for winners. Games are 4v4, no more that 10 on a roster, open to males and females over 18 years of age. Registration open online August 29.

Turkey Bowl Adult Flag Football Tournament

Are you ready for some Football? 4 v 4 flag football is a perfect way to get out of the bark-a-lounger and have fun while helping raise money for Basalt’s own Basalt Longhorn Football team. Gather your friends and join us for a Saturday of games. Winners will get a turkey and traveling trophy

Pickleball date night

This is a great way for the whole family to get together for some fun competition with the pickleball crowd. Join us on Friday nights for entertaining competition with people from around the valley.

Pickleball is a wonderful way to get some exercise and meet new people.
