Classes are designed to introduce students to the basic fundamentals of jazz and tap dance. Students will learn warm-up, basic steps and terminology, combinations and stage presence. In the second session we will add a Beginner/Intermediate class allowing students from session I to progress to the next level.

Attire: please wear comfortable clothing allowing lots of movement and ap shoes are required for the tap portion of the class. Jazz shoes or tennis shoes are okay for the jazz portion of the class.
What makes a “good” babysitter who is asked back again and again? Class participants can be successful babysitters by learning about leadership, basic care, safety, and first aid. Successful babysitters will receive a handbook and a course completion card (not a certification). Attendance and participation in all days is mandatory.

Basalt Recreation’s fun and spooky carnival is back. Here is a safe environment for you child to start out the Halloween holiday. Each child receives a goody bag with glow stick and candy bar with cover charge.

Taking tennis inside for fast pace tennis drills and games to get your heart rate to its optimal level. This class can also be great cross training to get your muscles in optimal skiing condition. Skill level is not a factor for participation. Four sessions to choose from or purchase a punch card and pay as you play. Sign up for a full session for $60 or buy a punch card at Basalt Town Hall and each class is $15.

Here is the chance to learn the relaxing and fun sport of cross-country skiing. Techniques on stance and balance are taught with lots of fun and games. A fun way to have your child learn skiing without the crowds of the ski areas. Class is taught on the Rio Grande Trail. Class meets at the Rec House at the High School. Take one session or both!

Basalt Recreation provides programs for youth by contracting with talented people who teach our activities. If you have a talent you would like to share give us a call to discuss. We can set up a location, provide advertising and public announcements, we provide registrations, and we also provide liability insurance for a percentage of the fee. Aspen Elks Lodge provides funding for scholarships to participate in Basalt Recreation activities. Applications for funding can be found on the recreation website or at the town hall. This is becoming a popular way for children of our community to enjoy the many recreational activities with Basalt Recreation. Forms must be properly filled out to be considered. This scholarship money is to be used for Basalt Recreation programs only. Other organizations included in this brochure have a separate scholarship program.
